Choosing the Needle Length
Choosing the Correct Needle Length
Derma (skin) rollers come in several needle lengths to address different skin problems, so it is important to purchase the needle size which will be most effective for the condition or body part you plan on treating.
The following table shows which needle lengths are suitable for the different purposes:
|Boost Absorption of products||
Mild Chicken Pox /
Ice Pick scars
Light Stretch Marks

|= Ideal length = Suitable length = Ineffective length|
While this table is useful as a general guideline, note that there are also other factors to consider. Generally speaking, the thicker your skin is in the area of treatment - the longer the needle you may use. For example, on fleshy areas such as the thighs and buttocks, most customers will prefer to use a 1.5mm roller, whereas on more delicate areas such as the face, the most common choice would be a 0.5 mm roller.
Since males' skin is usually thicker than women's, often a slightly longer needle length may be used for the same purpose. But even regardless of gender, some people are just more sensitive than others, and so may feel more discomfort rolling their skin. However, this can easily be solved by applying a local anesthetic prior to each treatment, which virtually reduces any discomfort to zero.
You may have noted that the 2.0mm and 2.5mm models are not being mentioned in the above table. We don't recommend using these lengths for home treatment unless instructed by a professional (they could be harmful in some areas). Furthermore, so far no there is supporting evidence which suggests that a 2.0mm roller is more efficient than a 1.5mm roller as far as collagen induction is concerned.
On the other hand, remember that needles shorter than 0.5mm cannot reach deep enough in the skin to actually induct collagen, and therefore are ineffective for anti-aging purposes.
Still not sure which needle length to use?
If you still can't decide which length to use, we usually recommend to start with the 0.5mm roller. While the 0.5mm needles are long enough to actually induct collagen in the skin, they are still very tolerable and can be used anywhere on the body (except on the eyelids) up to 3 times a week. After a few sessions, you will be able to decide if you want to go on further to use longer needles.
